Catherine Doocy Drake Art On Display At The Beanery
Artist Statement

I invent landscapes from memory; subconscious visions that materialize on paper or canvas. A few brushstrokes, stains of color or smudges of charcoal can conjure up a field, a cloud, a day. Creating the Illusion of movement is an important part of my work

I use the vernacular of landscapes painting as a method for exploring composition and color; attempting to evoke the feeling of the landscape rather than documenting the landscape's actual forms. I marvel at how easily a line can transform itself into a tree, a simple stain of blue beocmes a sky, and wind is inferred with the gesture of a brush.

Steven Glad
Steve Glad, 50, has a long standing interest in photography that began when he was a child. Those childhood interests led him to be a staff photographer for four years while in college at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.

His interest continued to develop in his young adult years. Shortly after his marriage he began wedding photography. While refining that skill, he continued to capture historic landmarks and nature while traveling in the United States and Europe.

Though wedding photography continues to be his primary emphasis, Steve utilizes his photographic skills in other areas as well. He has been a photographer for Special Olympics Connecticut for several years. Photos have been published in several Special Olympics Connecticut publications. In 2004 he submitted several photographs to the National Park Service as part of their annual photo contest. Most were considered finalists in the contest.

Steve is employed at StPaulTravelers in Hartford. He volunteers with Special Olympics as the coach of the West Hartford Alpine skiing team and Bloomfield Unified Bowling; has been a long time member of the board of WILA and is a volunteer ski coach at the White Mountain Adaptive Ski School at Loon Mountain in Lincoln, NH.

Steve resides in Windsor with his wife Sara and children; Jennifer and Matthew.

Her style combines traditional representational approaches with abstraction and layering of shape and color, to lend a sense of depth and the passage of time to two-dimensional works.
